 Addressing Opioid Prescribing in the Stateline

SCW was awarded $235,382 from the Hendricks Family Foundation in October to address opioid prescribing in the Stateline over the next two years. This grant will support engagement of general surgeons on the Wisconsin-Illinois border in an educational program to implement best practices in opioid prescribing.

SCW will provide infrastructure and use a three-pronged approach to improvement and practice change that incorporates benchmarked performance reporting, education on evidence based practices, and a collaborative learning environment for sharing practice change experience and effective solutions. We are grateful for the Hendricks Family Foundation’s support and look forward to making a sustainable impact on the Stateline area.

Building a Surgery Engagement and Measurement Network to Improve Rural Cancer Care Delivery

SCW, in collaboration with the University of Wisconsin Carbone Cancer Center, has been awarded $200,000 from the National Cancer Institute to improve surgical quality in rural communities through its Rural Task Force. The Rural Task Force will build upon existing information relationships between rural hospitals in regions of the state to ensure deep engagement, feasibility, scalability and sustainability.

The long-term goal of this grant is to improve surgical quality for cancer patients in rural communities through better data and infrastructure, which will support equitable dissemination and implementation of evidence-based surgical care. Dr Jill Ties and Dr. Nicholas Kitowski will lead the Rural Task Force and help implement this project.
